After changing and looking, failing and revising.... Fate has brought me to a place where I need to be. In writing this thesis and producing this work I have been emotionally drained almost daily. Talking about depression, PTSD, living in that dark place in my mind. Working to understand what is my own thoughts and projecting it through my art.
People are often viewed by what country they identify with, where they were born, their ancestors, or where they immigrated from. However, there are few countries that have attained a reputation so large in such a short period than the United States of America. There are a plethora of reasons for this reputation, as people moved from Europe in many cases to escape the Monarchies, they became fiercely independent, and outspoken. The words of the men who penned their names to documents which began the separation of this nation from Britain are eloquent and inspiring. When I read these passages, I am moved emotionally and feel a pride inside of me that motivates me to be a better American.
The framers and founders of this country were for the most part middle aged, they were educated merchants and farmers. These men worked the land and understood economics, they wanted to create their own destiny, and assure the freedoms of this society which had in such a short time become a culture separate from Britain. They were also wordsmiths, eloquent, concise, and poetic their ideas became words which we can today relate to and govern our Nation.
Based in free enterprise our Nation grew exponentially, expanding quickly into a country gaining its reputation as an equal to its former European masters, gaining respect from not only Britain, but France, Spain, and Portugal. The young upstart who can hold their own, this reputation has not seemed to fade at all in over 200 years.
Another cornerstone of this country is the acceptance of differences in people, with that said I do not feel that a country should adapt its laws or current way of life to accommodate immigration. The immigrant should adapt and accept the country they have chosen to live in or move to a country that is better suited to their political, moral, and ethical lifestyle. If not for colorful immigration we would not be the melting pot of ethnicities which we are, so many cultures have contributed to the eclectic fabric of my country. We have grown as a culture and a country because of the Americanized cultural moments of our immigrants, the blending of traditions into our society.
We are strong because of our diversity, but being and embracing that we are all Americans is the binding which makes us so strong. Taking the words of the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution and understanding them, letting them empower us this is the true strength of our country, it is a thought, an idea, it is ever evolving.
In pertaining to the government, to raise awareness of the words written by the framers of the Constitution and founders of this nation so that we may further understand the nuances of how this government works, for their words have become more pertinent in our recent times more so than in the last 100 years. Our nation is in its core ripping at itself without regard for public safety or sanity.
Writing and brainstorming, I am still working to define my end goal. I am trying to get the idea out of my head so I can verbalize what I am thinking, it is difficult but I know I am getting closer every time I sit down.
In the beginning the mind is blank and the spark flashes in the darkness, quickly looking to see the idea that just happened. *spark* *flash* Again, this time you really do see it and the thought comes with a little more clarity. This is how it works in my mind till it seems like a fireworks show and I start writing and sketching, it is starting, however it is still misfiring a bit but I'm getting there.
